Hyndburn Inter Faith Forum

The Forum (HIFF) is in the process of developing its programme of activities for 2012. This programme will include events that will create a better understanding of each others values and beliefs.

HIFF held a ‘Faith Walk’ in Accrington in February 2007. Other successful events that HIFF have been involved in are the Spirit of Hyndburn exhibition, faith dialogues such as; Faith and the Environment, and Tastes of Hyndburn event.

HIFF is keen to work with young people and would welcome young people to their meetings. The Forum members are exploring various opportunities to work with local schools and groups.

It is envisaged that the faith leader’s forum events will look at various topics that are of concern to all faith leaders including:

  • promoting a better understanding of each other’s faith;

  • uniting to address societies failure to respond to the gift of faith;

  • counteracting the materialism in our society;

  • addressing the anti-faith views expressed within the media;

  • promoting youth involvement with the faith communities;

  • co-operation in presenting a united front on faith and moral issues;

  • supporting each other and their faiths.

HIFF would welcome ideas for their programme of activities so please contact them or attend a meeting.

Whilst the Hyndburn Inter Faith Forum meets at the HV&CRC it would be possible to hold meetings or events elsewhere in Hyndburn, so contact them if you have a venue to offer.

House of Lords debate on multiculturalism and interfaith dialogue
On 8 September a short debate on the subject of interfaith dialogue took place in the House of Lords. Responding to the debate on behalf of the Government, Baroness Warsi said: “Interfaith dialogue helps raise the standard of all faith-based debate in our country...I profoundly believe that there is far more that unites faith communities than divides them: common bonds that should be the basis for better understanding.” The full transcript of the debate can be found on Hansard at http://bit.ly/r1GzNb (column 469) and the debate can be viewed at http://bit.ly/ooc9St
