    Risk and small charities
    The Charity Commission, has published useful web pages on risk designed specifically for small charities. The new pages provide 10 useful questions that small charities should ask themselves to avoid problems. These cover areas such as making sure your charity is working in line with its governing document, ensuring that all trustees are properly appointed, how to assess risk and the importance of preparing accounts and trustee reports. The pages also cover simplified risk management for small charities as well as how small charities can avoid typical risks.

    CRB Guides
    'An applicant's guide to completing the CRB application form' provides general rules for applicants, from how to record current and previous names and address history through to returning the completed form to the Countersignatory. The 'Countersignatory's guide to completing the CRB application form' is designed for the organisations that countersign the application.     Faith - North West Links

    Northwest Forum of Faiths
    Faith Communities and Public Life in the Northwest. The Northwest Forum of Faiths is a 'forum of forums'. Membership is not open to individuals but to representatives of existing sub-regional and local inter faith bodies.     Faiths4change
    Operation Eden was a pilot project, launched in 2004, which involved over a thousand volunteers working on over 50 projects in Merseyside. These included the regeneration of allotments by the Muslim-led, Al Ghazali Centre through to improvements to a section of the Leeds-Liverpool canal in Bootle by local volunteers. By improving local neighbourhoods and bringing together those who care about the welfare of their environment, we can demonstrate the importance of moving individuals towards a greater understanding and tolerance of diversity.

    Chancellor George Osborne Announces New £100 Million Fund
    This is for Charities in Hardship. The fund will be aimed at medium and large groups in England to help them prepare to play a bigger role in public service delivery. The CSR report said the fund would be open to ‘organisations delivering front-line services that stand to be affected in the short term by reductions in spending, and are able to demonstrate that the financial impact will affect their ability to deliver services’.     Grants for Individuals
    These trusts collectively have £362 million available each year. The content has featured in A Guide to Grants for Individuals in Need and its sister publication The Educational Grants Directory. First published in 1987 and 1988 respectively, they have for many years been seen as the standard reference guide on charitable funds for individuals in need.
    They have been very popular with Citizens Advice, school/university welfare offices, other welfare organisations, libraries and other reference points.
    We aim to include all publicly-registered charities which give at least £500 a year to individuals, although most give much more than this.

    Real Help for communities - Modernisation fund
    £1,000 bursaries available to small charities Third sector organisations with an annual turnover of between £150,000 and £750,000 are invited to apply for a £1,000 bursary from the government’s Modernisation Fund Grants Programme, before 17 July. The bursaries will allow organisations to buy at least two days of advice and support to explore how they can become more resilient and work more closely with others, including through collaboration or merger.

    The aim of HyndburnLife is to present in one place information and services from many sources, and present it in an accessible, user-friendly way.
    We aim to provide a single point of access to the full range of online services comprising council, leisure, education, health, social services etc. in addition to services the site will bring together local information concerning such things as transport, jobs, local events etc. In this way, all the information people need about the local area, from all the relevant service providers, is provided in one place.

    The National Survey of Third Sector Organisations (NSTSO) gathered the views of the leaders of Third Sector Organisations (TSOs) in England including voluntary and community organisations, charities, and social enterprises.     NW Together We Can Network
    The North West Together We Can Network is being established as a regional 'learning network' for local authority practitioners and policy-makers who are keen to explore issues of community engagement and active citizenship. The network builds on the experience of the national Civic Pioneers Network and will develop a similar pattern of membership based on the five principles.

    Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA)
    Projects and schemes supported and funded by the NWDA are largely delivered by public and private sector partners, at a sub-regional and local level. Once a project has been developed and has secured Agency investment, a team of specialists will work closely with partners to deliver the scheme.
    The Agency works with a wide range of local and regional delivery partners, including local authorities, community and voluntary groups and the private sector. However, perhaps the most significant partners are Urban Regeneration Companies (URCs).

    Lancashire VCFS Consortium
    The Lancashire VCFS Consortium is a Lancashire wide organisation that has been created to support the development of infrastructure services to frontline VCFS organisations across the Lancashire sub-region and as a delivery vehicle for the ChangeUp programme.
    The development of the consortium is a direct result of ChangeUp, a 10 year strategy aimed at strengthening VCFS infrastructure and making it sustainable.

    Communication for All
    Communication for All is a national organisation aimed at helping and supporting hard of hearing people. The project fills a gap in services available for adults with an acquired hearing loss, be it mild, moderate or severe. It provides lipreading classes, support groups, a befriending scheme, training for volunteers.

    Aawaz
    Aawaz provide support to Asian women and families (families as a whole unit) working towards assisting individuals with their self-development to improve their chances to integrate in the wider society. We believe that “home is the whole world” and the “very first academy for a child is the mother’s lap” if the mother is well informed then the lives of families would be improved. They work with the principle of self-help, equipping women and families to learn to help themselves so that we can break down the culture of dependency. Through their work they are bringing better understanding between communities helping towards integration and harmony.

    Lancashire Wide Network for Minority Ethnic Women (LWNMEW)
    The Lancashire Wide Network for Minority Ethnic Women (LWNMEW) is a unique umbrella organisation, a specialist in community development for disadvantaged women and in particular Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) women. Its pioneering approach to regional and local economic regeneration has earned it a county wide reputation.
    LWNMEW has its project base in Accrington and covers the whole of Lancashire county. It offers a wide range of support services and helps women to improve their skills and confidence and to bring added benefits to their local communities.

    The Womens Centre
    The Womens Centre provides a range of supportive services and information for the benefit of local women.
